Payment procedure:
50% payment due beforehand
50% due immediately upon receipt of finished piece.
Payments can be made by check (mailing address will be supplied) or paypal (acct ID mail@lcharris.com).
Acrylic Durable, can look a lot like oil, paintings usually take less time due to paint being very fast drying.
Oil Luminous and rich, slow drying time means painting may take longer, if varnish is desired (recommended) must wait 6-12 months.
Graphite Standard pencils, black and white with soft gradation. Needs to be framed and matted under glass or plexiglass.
Background   Size
Consider when thinking of the size you’d want that a frame may add more to dimensions – plan on anywhere from 6 to 12 inches. For example, with a 16" x 20" acrylic the frame will probably be about 3" additional on each side – so the actual wall space the piece will take up would be 22"x 26". For a medium that needs matting and glass, it can be even more. If you got a 11"x 14" graphite, the mat would probably add 3.5" per side, though the frame might only and 0.5". The actual wall space taken for that would be 19"x 24".
Simple
Single color or blend of colors behind subject, often chosen to compliment subject.
Scenic
Any kind of scenery behind subject, including landscapes and buildings.

Composition
The positioning of main subject and/or elements in piece. For example, if you feel your horse looks best on his right side, that is the pose that will be done. If you want to capture the personality of your dog, focusing on her head is usually the best way. Also consider what any photo reference you’re providing shows – is there one that is particularly good? Or, if you already have a preference, do your photos show enough information so that no important points such as markings, etc. are missed?

Photographic Reference
For most portraits photo's are needed because most subjects (especially animals) aren't great at or don't have the time needed to sit in the same pose for the weeks it takes to work on a piece. Unless you are located in southern Arizona where the artist can visit in person to take photos, you'll need to dig up any existing photos and/or get your camera out to take some fresh shots. It's best to have a variety of photos (5 or more) with some of very good quality and some just to show any markings or other individual features regardless of quality. The artist will review them in consideration with what you might be interested in as far as composition (see below) and let you know if she needs more to create a quality portrait. Either digital files can be sent by email (or ftp if file sizes are larger) or standard photos can be mailed, which will be scanned and returned.

***Professional photos can only be used as indirect reference, unless you can get the permission of the photographer!!

Framing
Your finished original can also be framed by the artist, though not a framer by profession. There is an additional charge for framing, contact the artist for more information.

Gallery Wrap Canvas
An alternative to framing with acrylics and oils is a gallery wrap canvas, which is deeper than a normal canvas (about 1 1/2" to 2") and painted over the sides so framing is not required - though gallery wrap canvases can be framed. It's a very clean, contemporary look yet can have a nice appearance even with pieces painted in a more traditional style. There is an additional charge for gallery wrap varying by size, contact the artist for more information.
